-   ABOUT US  -

Family owned and operated. We harvest and sell salmon commercially on the Taku River, BC. We ship to Whitehorse YT, and Juneau AK. We work hand in hand with DFO Canada and ADF&G Alaska to produce sustainably caught, and traceable salmon. We are CFIA Approved to supply salmon to restaurants and stores for menus and resale. We have BC Government Fish Receiver License, DFO Commercial Salmon Harvesting License, Government of Canada BN, YTG Environmental Health Permit, City of Whitehorse Business Licenses in place, all to sell salmon. To bring salmon to Alaska we are now bonded, and licensed too! We want to supply the best freshest salmon to your plate!

The knowledge and drive to commercial fish has been handed down to my sister Michelle and I, from our Dad Vern, his Siblings, their Mom, Dad and Uncles, and their Moms, Dads and Uncles, etc. The business licensing expertise has been a long road with guidance from our Mom Jackie Yaklin. Jackie helps with the sales and customers in Whitehorse, alongside her Husband Shannon. We are passing it onto our boys, friends, and family. With help from our business colleagues we work together to help the Canadian Economy by: bringing business to local air charter businesses like: Alpine Aviation, and Air North; bringing business to local printing companies; bringing business to local shipping companies!

Our passion is our lifestyle!

-   ABOUT THE SALMON  -

The Salmon on the Taku River are 5 species: King, Sockeye, Coho, Pink and Chum.

Each species has a certain season that they run up the river and spawn. The King run in April-July. The Sockeye run in June-September. The Coho run in July-September.  Pink run in July-September. Chum run in July - September.

We are there to harvest Sockeye and Coho from June- August. As our season goes from June - August, the availability of Sockeye decreases and the availability of Coho Increases.

*** Sockeye and Coho Available in Season, on a first come first serve basis ***

The Taku River Salmon is very high in Omega-3 Fatty Acids, and are well known for their high fat content. They only swim a short distance from the ocean to our fishing grounds, about 38 miles, so you can notice a huge difference in the taste of fish oils compared to salmon that have swam a longer distance.

-   ABOUT THE HARVESTING   -

When we harvest the salmon, we  pull them into the boat using 120 foot gillnets. We park our boat at our dock, and pull the salmon out of the nets, pull their gill to start bleeding them, and put them into fish totes with cold water. We gutt and de-head the salmon, and put them in a huge insulated sealed tote box in ice slush water.  We count and weigh each fish, provide those numbers to DFO, and put the fish on ice in a clean insulated sealed tote box.

-   ABOUT THE SHIPPING   -

When we ship the salmon, we use a First In First Out Method to ensure our customers receive the freshest product possible. There is a small window between harvesting and shipping that we have the ablility to provide salmon to customers, fresh, on ice, within 24 hours of it being harvested.

This 2025 Season we are adjusting to shipments all summer to Juneau AK, and at the end of our season on August 21-24 2025, we will have fresh Taku River salmon for our Whitehorse YT customers!!

-   ABOUT COMMUNITY SUPPORTED FISHERIES   -

A 'Community Supported Fishery' (CSF) is a business model in which harvesters like us, can connect their product directly with customers. This model was introduced to us by 'Skipper Otto Community Supported Fishery,' back in 2016. We have gone to a National Seafood Summit, and joined a network LocatCatch.org, where we learned about CSFs, and share many core values with generational seafood harvesters. Some of these core values are: Community-based fisheries, Fair access, Fair price, Eating with the ecosystem, Traceable and simple supply chains, Catch and handle with honor, Community and ecosystem based fisheries management, Honoring the ocean, Creativity and collaboration, Reducing Carbon Footprint,

and Controlling how much we harvest/consume by asking for a fair price.
